.jack's nursery: a sneak peek.

it occurred to me the other day that i have yet to show any photos of jack's nursery! i guess it's because i am still looking for a chair for the space and have yet to hang all the pictures, etc but it's slowly coming along and may even be done by the time the little man spends his first night in it.

as for the decor or theme of his room, i knew that i really wanted to stray away from the obvious baby nursery and stick to a more mature space [i mean its probably more for me than him at this point!], so after working with a few hand me downs [more to come on that later] i decided to try out a sort of rustic modern woodland theme [if that even makes sense! ha!].

here are a few highlights.

.this life.

this boy. gosh, let me tell you, he sure is all sorts of awesome.

i mean, just look at that smile. and it's always present. sure, he has an 11am pout/cry session pretty much daily, but i know to watch for it and if i get his nap in on time, he gives me those wide toothless grins all day long.

and boy, do those grins melt my heart. i turn to complete mush. the things i do to continue to get those smiles, well, lets just say it's not short of parading around with purple hair and a big red nose on. and i completely don't mind one little bit.

i seriously don't know what this little man has turned me into. i remember blogging, shortly after i announced i was pregnant, that 'i won't turn this blog into a baby blog'. ha! what a joke that was!
i mean, sure this blog is a lifestyle blog about my day-to-day comings and goings, but i was convinced that i would have other interests besides a little wee one once he arrived. ah, but look at me now. i can't seem to form two sentences without beaming about my boy. he is everything to me and i wouldn't change this new life of mine for anything in the world.

so i hope you don't mind if i don't apologize for writing or sharing pictures about my sweet little guy on a daily basis, because, he really is one rad little fella. and i promise i will try to post things about fashion, food, parties, and music too...really anything that i find interesting, but i just wanted to say you might just get a bunch of this little man too.

so friends, if you're still reading this little rant of mine, please enjoy these pictures of my boy from the other night. it wasn't anything special, just pete, jack and myself playing and reading before his bedtime. a simple wednesday night spent with the people i love the most.

**and special thanks to my auntie myrt for making jack this amazing quilt.
it's by far, our most favourite.

.outdoor fun with kids.

while my son is way too young to enjoy any outdoor activities right now, i seriously can't wait till next year when he is just about a year & half and hopefully walking and playing with as much craziness as we can handle. with so many awesome [and fun!] winter activities to beat those cabin-fever blues, i am already stock piling a few of these items as nothing beats playing in the snow, especially when you live up here in canada!

here's some of the coolest winter toys i've come across this year, and if you live in any sort of snow climate you would probably win an 'awesome mom + dad' award if you got a few for your kiddos too!

lets get those kids outside and physically active!

1] ideal sno brick builder || $5.95. this ever-so-helpful brick builder will assist your kiddos in probably building the most awesome igloo or snow fort ever! a must in my books!
2] lucky bums children skis || $79.95. probably the cutest / most stylish little person skis i have ever laid my eyes on. this super cool retro looking pair comes in two sizes and i'm sure will be the first purchase my husband will make for outdoor play!
3] sno-crayons || $5.95. now your little artist can play outside too! these crayons fill up and enable your little one to draw in the snow. awesome!
4] shovels || $12.95. little ones love to help mama and papa tidy up around the house [it makes them feel 'so big!'], so why not get them to help you outside with a colourful shovel! make a fun game out of it and you have yourself some free labor! and your sidewalks will never look so good!
5] junior hockey skates || $159.99. a little pair of skates! umm, adorable! get your little one on the rink early and he/she will be passing you the puck in no time! a great way for you to burn some calories as well!
6] zipfy sled || $39.95. have a little daredevil on your hands? let them whip down the hill on this sucker!
7] sno stomper || $24.95. these are probably my most favourite find of the lot! these mini snowshoes leave monster and animal tracks when your wee ones walk on the snow! how adorable is that? only wish they made adult versions....
8] ideal sno ball maker || $5.95. little hands have a hard time shaping snow balls with their tiny fingers so help them out with this awesome snow ball maker and you'll have a fun battle going in no time!

any cool outdoor toys that you've found and score points with your kids?? i'd love to hear about them!

.jack's first swim.

last week my sis, her bf, peter, jack and i headed out to the indoor pool. it was going to be jack's first swimming experience and we all wanted to be a part of it.
we packed up his diaper bag, replacing his normal diapers with the swimming type, and my sis found the wee man some baby trunks. we were all set.

while i knew that our baby loves his bath time, his reaction to the pool was with mixed reviews. he didn't cry or make a peep, however had that 'deer in the headlights' look to him almost the entire time. it was sort of a lot to take in for the wee boy, i'm sure, so you can't blame the little fella.

special thanks to my sis and my brother-in-law for taking the majority of these pics :)
i just can't get over how cool all these new experiences are for him and feel so lucky to get to experience them through his wide inquisitive eyes.
i know i've said this before, but i am so damn blessed to be this little boys mama.
so. damn. blessed.

.jack's threads: the aztec leggings.

i simply love dressing the little man in cool dud's. its become my creative outlet and since he doesn't have much say in the matter, i can really have some fun with it.

like little jean shirts and aztec leggings.

however, the number one thing i hear time and time again, is that boys aren't fun to shop for. and i have to totally disagree. like 100%.
little boy clothes have come such a long way, even just in the last couple years. i just find 'boy' shopping so much fun. you are forced to get creative with your choices, with your accessories, and it's fun to try out different types of layering. i just can't get enough. jack has become my little doll.

so i'm going to start a series on the little man's threads. things that i find cute, affordable, and baby-friendly. maybe it'll help in your search for the little dude in your life as well.
