.Nursery: Painted.

Before we left for Europe I was hounding my poor husband to complete a couple 'Honey-do' things on my baby list. This included painting the nursery. The only problem was, I didn't have a paint color nailed down yet. I knew I wanted a neutral color, something that could be easily mixed with other fun pops-of-color for when our little bundle arrives, but something not too boring. And I wanted it to be calming and warm.
And since I couldn't nail down the color that I wanted before we left, he made me promise to stop bugging him till after we got back. Which gave me another month to think about what color I wanted to go with. So I took my time choosing and in the end a classic light grey won out. CIL's Barley Beige to be exact.
It's a soft, bluish-beige grey that will blend perfectly with the other pop colors that I am thinking about using once we know it's a boy or girl. I also love the clean and calm feeling it gives me the minute I enter the room. Very warm and inviting [although, the shade is slightly off in these photos].

And I have to give the man credit. He was true to his word and the week we got back he tackled the nursery. Painted the entire thing. Even put together our new dresser [above].
Next up for him...hanging baby's new light fixture, putting together the bookcase, swapping out the dresser's knobs and installing some shelves.
Next up for me...nailing down my color palette, painting some polka dots, organizing the closet, dresser, and bookcase and choosing fabrics for crib bedding and fun accessories [anyone out there know where I can order any cool modern fabrics?]
Geez, baby is really coming up fast!

I'd recommend Tonic Living for fabrics, they've got lots and have great customer service.

    1. Thanks Christine. I'll check out Tonic living for some fabrics and just so you know, I'm totally using your crib skirt tutorial for my babe's room :) Hopefully it turns out as nice as yours did.

Also, you may have slightly influenced my Hemnes dresser purchase. I was hesitant as it was a little taller than I wanted, but saw how lovely it looked in Alice's room and loved all the storage so I totally went for it!

  3. Wow you are so prepared! Doesn't crewcuts start at size two ? Really hope we get one in Edmonton now that we have j crew.. I think that crib is nice - no matter what you pick you'll always see something you think you would have liked more. I don't sew so can't help you on fabrics but I also love pottery barn as well as dwell and RH baby for bedding. Have fun finishing up your nursery! I still haven't finished my daughters and she is 7 months :)

    1. Ahh! Busted! Crewcuts totally does start at size 2, but they had a little sale going on so I got a couple classic pieces that I know will still work in a couple of years....just don't tell my husband ;)

Also, thanks for the suggestions. Dwell is one of my fav's and I haven't looked at it in so long that I might just go take a peek this morning to see what they have. And I haven't heard of RH baby......going to check that out too :)

  4. It looks lovely! I've ordered material online at hawthorne threads. The shipping to Canada was reasonable. I ordered my daughter's bedding on etsy, it was pricey, but nice to have something unique, that you can design yourself. If you know someone who can sew for you, even better! Patricia bravo has a nice line of fabrics. Happy nursery decorating, it's the best room to do :)

    1. Thanks Alessia :)
I peeked on Etsy too and there where some really cool choices on there, but like you mentioned some a little pricey. Although, you do have a good point. Unique is key and I would like my babe's nursery to not resemble every other nursery out there, like if I ordered off of a major chain. Just so many choices!
Thanks for the suggestions too. I might be putting my poor momma to work if I do find the right fabric.

    1. Isn't it just adorable?! I actually bought two of them, but figure they are still a little big for a baby's room, so it'll have to collect a little dust till baby can walk. And they are from West Elm :)

  7. Great paint choice! We use the Hemnes as a change table/dresser too (ours is black) and it's awesome - so much storage and will easily grow with baby T into their big boy (or girl) room.
